HOW CAN WE GET MORE CASH

There are lots of ways to get more cash. Some of them are not socially acceptable and some might get you a free place to sleep and a job making plates for your neighbors car.

Rob a bank—not recommended.
Rob a convenience store—pick one that the attendent doesn’t know martial arts or carry a gun.
Get a second job—not recommended and a real drag.
Put your wife/significant other to work—most do this.
Get a loan from Daddy—go for it.
Start a brick and mortar business—great idea but it takes cash and we don’t have any.
Start an online business—WOW what an idea. (Darn I don’t know a thing about the internet).

Well that is a start for making more money. But we have a few problems. The Wife is all ready working two jobs and is pregnant. You can’t find a second job. Daddy just asked you for a loan and a payment on the last loan you got from him.

You buddy down the street wants to start a horse cart repair business but doesn’t know which end of the horse that the cart hooks to. Don’t think this is the business to get into.

Could I really make money on line. One thing is sure a lot of people have. They say it doesn’t take a lot to start. I can max out my significant others Visa and raise maybe $500. Can I start a business for this or less. What are my assets? I can type by hunt and peck. My old computer still works not to fast but it works. We have a decent internet connection (comes with the apartment, landlord pays it, just doesn’t know that it is still hooked up).

If this sounds like you then maybe you could make some money on line. One thing is sure you ain’t going to do it alone. You can’t afford a $5000 per hour coach at this point. There is another option. Understanding How Search Engines Work: Unique Content – Panacea?

The holy grail of Internet Marketers (IMers) is TRAFFIC and the gift one can have is to be able to get FREE TRAFFIC from the Search Engines (SEs).

How will SEs send you traffic?

It’s simple:

If one searches for something and that “something” is “discussed” a LOT on your site, say through your sales letter, or the content and the pages you have then SEs will consider your site as a good resource for …that “something.”

Thus the CONTENT you have to your site is ONE of the factors that will make SEs to send you traffic.

But that would be too easy… right?

Since millions of pages exist online and millions of pages deal with the SAME subjects, there should be some ADDITIONAL CRITERIA that should allow SEs to RANK those millions of sites that offer equally useful info for that “something” people search online.

That’s how the game of SEO – Search Engine Optimization starts…

While it’s easy to reach the top 10 results in SEs, you will need to make huge efforts to stay there.

OR…

Automate some things and keep your position.

So… back to the rules of the game and the criteria SEs use for ranking pages.

History has shown that whenever a CODE exists then there will always be some people that will try to get the KEY for that code.

What happens then?

When the KEY is known, the Code changes.

As you all understand SEs are BUSINESSES. THEIR way of DECIDING what pages will rank in the top 10 results IS THEIR CODE.

SEs as Business have the responsibility to display GOOD and USEFUL content through their results.

Why?

Well…

SEs are FREE online TOOLS. All free online tools make money from the ads. The more people use the online tool, the more traffic the online tool has, the easier will also be for the business that runs the online tool to bargain the prices for ads on their sites depending on that traffic.

Google is considered to be the no 1 SE

They keep their CODE secret and when some people manage to “crack” that code and thus find ways to rank in top 10 results easier then Google SLAPS them

I am sure you have read about those Google Slaps…

What a Slap is??

It’s simple:

As said Google wants traffic.

Traffic will make advertisers to pay money through Adwords. The money they get from Adwords are used for paying the people that send people to those ads through Adsense.

Adwords <=> Google Ads <=> Adsense

And it loops…

Say you were an advertiser in Adwords and say that you pay $X each time one clicks on your ads.

Why should you place the ad anyway?

Because you’d want to get traffic from Google… through any page your ads can be displayed by Google.

That traffic can send

- subscribers and/or
- sales

to you.

If it was THAT easy to manipulate Google or any other SE and bring your pages in the top 10 results for ANY subject you want, what would happen?

Again it’s simple:

If advertisers do not get traffic that is converted to leads and/or sales, Google will not collect money because advertisers will stop their promotions.

It’s logical, right?

If you spend money for your ads and get nothing then you stop spending money.

But…

If you keep getting leads and sales then you keep spending money with the source that sends that traffic to you.

If some people manage to generate top rankings on demand because they “cracked” the Google’s code and if their method resulted to a flood of the top 10 results with pages that DO NOT OFFER GOOD AND VALUABLE CONTENT to those that SEARCH for that content… then users will be disappointed by Google… and again the loop comes:

“If advertisers do not get traffic that is converted to leads and/or sales, Google will not collect money because advertisers will stop their promotions.”

I hope the above are understood.

Moving on…

As you can easily guess now… Internet Marketers are the red flag for Google.

Why?

Because IMers’ Holy Grail is TRAFFIC.

IMers’ targets are the search engines that are used by millions of people…

If they can manage to crack the SEs’ codes and bring their pages in the top 10 results, what will happen?

- they will get traffic, leads and/or sales
- they can also sell that service to people

And what will happen if IMers (or say: any people) can MANIPULATE Google (or any Google) and thus bring the sites they want to the top 10 rankings’ results??

Here is the loop again:

“If advertisers do not get traffic that is converted to leads and/or sales, Google will not collect money because advertisers will stop their promotions.”

You see…

Internet is not occupied by marketers only…

The millions of people out there search for solutions or information that would help them in a way… they do not want to necessarily BUY something…

On the other side for IMers that for those that want to dominate top search engines’ rankings everything online has 2 purposes only: to send leads and/or traffic.

Can you now see why there will always be a war between the Search Engines and Marketers?

That is WHY Google BANS accounts at Adwords and Adsense, many times without giving an excuse and by just saying that they banned the account because it was related to a “money making” scheme…

That’s why may see BIG names on Internet Marketing to cry in the forums for the unfair ban of their accounts in Adwords or Adsense…

More information on that so you can understand it better…

Google’s motto is “Do not be evil” – or something like that…

Google and any SE wants VALUABLE content.

Now…

If you find a way to create, say 1000s of pages online with a click of a mouse, and thus create sites that can dominate search engines’ top rankings for a subject and you keep doing this again and again for more subjects can you imagine what will happen?

Think about this.

You managed to crack the Google’s code… You pick a keyword – say “dogs”

If you click and create 1000s of pages that “talk” about dogs…

..dogs…
…dogs training…
…food for dogs…
…how to train your dog…

etc…

then every time one searches in SEs for “dogs” chances are your pages will be there in the top 10 rankings…

That would be PERFECTLY OK…

…if your CONTENT was VALUABLE indeed…

But…

What does “valuable content” mean??

I’ll tell you what is NOT valuable content so to understand it easier:

You know that there are some page generators. They create pages online, favorably by using WordPress as a platform…

One of the main tricks IMers use is this:

(Note: this is a simplified example, so to give you the idea. Real mechanisms may be by far more complicated..)

They pick some keywords, say 1000 keywords related to “dogs”

Then they run their software and create 1000 pages, 1 page for each keyword.

That would be PERFECTLY OK with SEs IF

…and ONLY IF…

each of those 1000 pages HAD SOMETHING TO SAY… aka. the content on those pages was valuable.

So what is the headache of Search Engines?

As said, there are many scripts, software applications and platforms today that can create 1000s of pages based on keywords.

So you may come up with a page like

and while you can see ads, banners, and perhaps some youtube videos, podcastings, or even Amazon ebooks and eBay auctions, the question SEs may raise will still be:

“Where Is the CONTENT???”

Mind you the example described above is the result of the GOOD applications, that while they may not answer the question raised by SEs in an explicit way, they DO fetch RELATED content automatically by third parties’ resources.

There are solutions that do nothing else but creating pages like

and offer NO content inside, other than what the template of the page displays (ads, banners, etc.)

I hope that NOW you can understand the statement:

* Search Engines LOVE UNIQUE content. *

If you manage to use a software that will

a) feed your pages with unique content
b) and ALSO fetch RELATED content from third parties’ recources (Amazon, eBay, other blogs, etc.)

then Search Engines will do appreciate your pages for the content you provide.

Otherwise, you may manage to trick SEs once, or twice, or for some months… but eventually the SLAP will come…

I’d like to close this article with the following:

It is argued that one can use PLR articles instead of unique content and gets good results from search engines without the danger to be Slapped.

That’s half true for the reasons that follow:

One can find 1000s of PLR articles online through various membership sites. We are talking about 1000s of files, millions of words, etc.

It’s known that less than 5% of the members in a membership site DO USE the content in a creative way. Thus even if a membership has 100 members, less than 5 will actually USE the PLR articles and thus feed their blogs with them.

I assume you are aware of terms like article spinning, article flipping, etc… Simply out it you can get a PLR article and “change it” a bit either manually or by using software applications, replace words with synonyms, etc. and thus make it to DIFFER from the original PLR article that may be used by your fellow members of a membership.

So even when PLR articles bring results even when they are posted “as is” on the blogs that can be explained NOT by any general rule like

“You can use PLR articles as is and get top 10 rankings in search engines”

Such a generalization would be a mistake.

The SOUND advice you should remember is:

Use unique content.

If you cannot do that then use PLR articles but before posting the PLR articles on your blog, change them, work with the content, etc.

If you cannot do that, and because in all cases DOing something is better than doing nothing, THEN just use the PLR articles as is and pray it will work.

Conclusion:

The Unique Content is appreciated by Search Engines but is NOT the Panacea that will send hordes of visitors to your site through the SEs.

That would be TOO easy… don’t you think?

See it this way:

If EVERYBODY could reach top search engines’ rankings by just using Unique content, then HOW on Earth could Search Engines prioritize their results??

With all the above said, you still need to remember that content is just ONE CRITERION of the ones used by Search Engines to rank your sites.

While a man was polishing his new car, his 4 yr old son picked up stone and scratched lines on the side of the car.
In anger, the man took the child’s hand and hit it many times not realizing he was using a wrench.

At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures.

When the child saw his father….. with painful eyes he asked, ‘Dad when will my fingers grow back?’ The man was so hurt and speechless; he went back to his car and kicked it a lot of times.

Devastated by his own actions….. . sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches; the child had written ‘LOVE YOU DAD’.
The next day that man committed suicide. . .

Anger and Love have no limits; choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely life & remember this:
Things are to be used and people are to be loved.
The problem in today’s world is that people are used while things are loved.

Let’s try always to keep this thought in mind:
Things are to be used,

Save Money With an MLM Program

The latest hot item on internet marketing is the Trump Network. How does the Trump Network compare to other network marketing programs. The three programs that will be reviewed are SFI (Strong Future International), My World Plus (MWP) and the Trump Network. The following areas were evaluated to compare three of the most popular internet network marketing programs:

Commission Schedule
Products
Consumer involvement
What is included in entry kit
Annual fees.
Projected annual household income of customer.
World wide shipping arrangements.
Cost of tools and training.

Commission Schedule

The Trump Network appears to be heavily load to produce large income for the higher levels of the upline and the lower tiers are the pawns to the upper levels.

SFI has a more balance approach but levels for earnings are higher.

The MWP program is different both in commissions schedules and in products supplied. It is a straight line infinite depth commission schedule. Its greatest benefit for most members will be the monthly savings to the member from local and online stores.

All three programs can be very profitable for the person that make an effort and realizes the limitations of the individual program.

Products

Trump Network at this time has release information on only one product. It is a updated version of the old Amway Vitamin line. This program is really a renaming of the old Ideal Health line. Ideal Heath was a knock off program from the original Amway program. The hype is that this one is individually tailored to meet your needs. I take this with reservations. It is an expensive product costing about $60 per individual per month.

SFI has a large and diversified product line. This company provides some product that anyone can get excited about. They even have a sales site in the Triple Clicks line that allows you to sell items in much the same way as eBay. They offer the MaxMall line that has over 170 stores to chose products from.

The MWP program is a discount marketing club with a new twist. It utilizes a straight line commission schedule through a continuous down line. Its greatest saving for the average member will be from coupons, discounts at local stores and online shoping discounts. The commission schedule is very lucative for those that will push the program.

What Is Included In Kit

The SFI entry kit is basically a web site access that has the only cost of being your email address. This give you access to their affiliate program and the ability to by products and sign up new affiliates in your down line. This gives you access to the complete training program. The only upsell to this basic entry level is the “eye earn program” and it cost 20 bucks.

The Trump Network has two entry levels. The quick start method that sells for $497.00 and the basic level that sells for $48.00. The only difference that I can see to these two levels is that for the first couple of months the high priced version allows you access to some of the higher level stuff what ever that is. I have not viewed the Trump Training program.

MWP has an entry fee based upon two levels also. The basic fee allows you to buy the products and get discounts but does not include sponsoring. The $69 package includes discounts, commissions, and access to the Powerline sponsoring system.

Annual Fees

The Trump Network has an annual fee for membership as can best be determined from the web site. (I have not yet purchased a membership) The annual fees may well be discussed in the membership package.

Since SFI is a free entry MLM business no annual fees are charged.

MWP has a monthly membership fee of 19.95. Because of the nature of the program this is easily covered by every day purchases of the members. There is no need to purchase “special” products to cover your fee. You save your fee from savings at local stores.

Projected Annual Household Income of Customer

SFI has no minimum requirements however they also would like you to sign up for a minimum program. All MLM’s push minimum product usage. This ensures the life of the program. Even if clients only buy for themselves the company is secure.

MFP will probably work for the average family if they will use the discounts they will easily save more than the monthly membership fee. (I am offering a 10% discount to members at my auto repair shop. For the average car owner over a year this is over $100).

Since the cost of the product for The Trump Network is $60.00 per month per individual the annual income of the customer family for a four member family would be about $100,000 per year. Assuming that only the two adults in the family took the supplements the cost would be $1400 per year for the family. In order to have $1400 per year discretionary income the family would need to bring home over $80,000 per year or about $100,000 gross income.

World Wide Shipping Arrangements

Trump Network may not be able to ship their product, at least the current product world wide. There may be many governmental and health restrictions for the import of these product in many countries.

The folks at SFI have become a truly world wide company with the addition or regional supply centers and local business where there products can be picked up.

MWP is a world wide organization based upon local stores and shipping from many places on the globe—depending where the online store is located.

Cost Of Tools And Training

The cost of tools to build your MLM business is always a consideration in the decision to join a program. The entry level cost of the Trump Network is either $497 or $48. The $497 program seems to have more tools and training available. The $48 is a bare bones entry program and it appears that you are mostly on your own at this level.

The SFI program has no cost to join but they offer a basic advertising package for $20.00 called the Eye Earn package. It looks to be a pretty good deal.

The cost of training for the SFI program is included for free. It consist of many pages of text and a lot of video. I can’t tell you exactly what the Trump training program looks like but for the cost it better be good.

The MWP program has a great audio training program and a good web site. There is no charge for training. The Powerline tool is a great help in sponsoring and provide a large part of you follow up. Training, a web site and the whole program is $69.99.

THE BLACK HAT SIDE OF THE TRUMP NETWORK

Remember the old Black Hat Amway tactics. Remember the greats of Amway and the great shows that they put on with groups like the Goads. The big pitch was that you could not succeed in Amway without attending their functions. The functions were several hundred dollars that included hotel, food, and meeting tickets. I spent a lot of money on these things and never made any money. The curdling event happened one time when I heard a couple of the “Amway greats” discussing the “marks” and “sucker” refering to their audience and downline. This stimulated some thinking.

Investigation of their actual Amway sales and commissions revealed that they could not be making the kind of money that they claimed from product sales. The most of their money was coming from the “BLACK HAT” activities. The mandatory functions, tapes and motivational materials. Some of this was good but the majority was junk.

Why is this important to a discussion of the Trump Network. When you sign up for the Trump Network the first email that you get is—you guessed– is an invitation to attend a function. Good marketing if you are selling functions and plan to make the majority of your money selling hype. This appears to be the plan of the Trump Network. One thing is sure the Trump Network is going to put a lot of money in Donald’s pocket. (It will remove this money from the majority of those that sign up for it.) I have had a couple of people challenge this statement, however I have emails from people in the upline charging for “showing the plan.” and for tickets to other functions.

Conclusion

The SFI opportunity is a proven track record. They have been in business for over 10 years and are in the middle of one of the largest business expansions ever attempted. The number of new lines and stores is hard to believe. The cost with their most expensive package is less than $100.00.

If you are interested in building a business that will continue to grow and can be passed down to your kids as a profitable business SFI is the way to go.

MWP is the middle of the road program. Everyone if they use it at all will come out ahead financially. Their discounts are honored at stores like Target, Lowes, Office Depot and Burger King.

I feel that MWP while not the cheapest to get in, it has the potential of the greatest cash return to the average member.

What is the best program? The Trump Network definitely has the best media coverage. I question that if it will have that in ten years. This will certainly get it off to a flying start. If they had the products to back up the media hype it would be an excellent opportunity. Without a much broader product line it is going to be hard to make any money except for the fast start method where a chunk of the $497 sign up fee is passed to the up line. This kind of reminds me of the chain letter thing.

HOW TO TEACH OLD DOGS NEW TRICKS

Common knowledge and witticism tells a person that old dogs are incapable of learning new behaviors as is often bespoken in the adage, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. Despite the numbers of people who would proclaim this decree to be solid truth, we are here to tell you that it nowhere near the accurate description of the truth. It may be a little more difficult for an older dog to be trained, however it is entirely within the realm of possibility if one uses patience and remains consistent in the dog’s lessons throughout the process. You must us a consistent and proven training method such as The Secret to Dog Training.

The first step in training an older dog is remembering that this dog has, already been trained once, be it properly or improperly. The older dog already has preconceived notions as to what acceptable behaviors are and what behaviors are not welcome. If you wish to change any of these behaviors you have to reprogram the dogs thinking process. A farm dog may have been trained to protect the barnyard and chase stray animals and predators away from the barn. Unfortunately, the dog now lives in your townhouse and thinks your cat is a chicken killer. We have to reprogram the dogs thinking to make it understand that chasing the cat is not acceptable. So how would we handle this situation?

To start, make certain that the cat will be safe by placing the cat in a pet carrier or some other sturdy structure that prohibits the dog from actually physically contacting the animal but still allows for both animals to see, smell and hear each other. This provides a way for both animals to get used to each other in a safe, though possibly a bit stressful, situation. This small step teaches the dog and cat that both are going to be in the home. After the animals have both calmed a bit give them each a small reward, such as a piece of kibble. Be sure to give the dog lots of verbal praise and affection when it is not barking or trying to get to the cat as this reinforces his good behavior. These rewards are quite important in teaching older dogs as they help to retrain their minds that this behavior is good and is rewarded, thus making them want to repeat the behavior. This will also show the dog that you are accepting of the cat’s presence and you expect him to be accepting of the animal also. Repeat this process several times over the course of a week or so, until both animals seem fairly accustomed to the presence of the other and their aggressions seem to have subsided. You must be careful to only reward expected behavior.

At this point, you may be ready to move on to the next step. This step will require an assistant to help with one of the animals. Have the assistant leash the dog and hold him firmly on a very short leash. After instructing the assistant to maintain control of the dog, open the pet carrier and bring the cat out carefully. Your dog will likely move towards the cat so be sure the assistant has him held tightly and be careful not to let the cat panic and escape your grasp. Gradually bring them closer together and let them calmly adapt to each others presence. Repeat this step several times over the next few days and by the end of the week, these two animals might be like old chums. If they aren’t, you need some advanced techniques like those in The Secret To Dog Training.

Through this exercise, we see the basics of teaching an old dog something new. It involves first recognizing the dog’s previous training and then deciding what is applicable and what needs changed. Then reinforcing the good parts of the dog’s behavior with plenty of positive rewards and verbal praise while restricting or redirecting the parts of the behavior you want to stop. We also see that it is necessary to change the behavior in small steps rather than a complete change all at one time. This serves to help the older dog by not confusing him totally. With small steps the animal feels that it is learning new tricks rather than a complete behavior modification. This also allows you to spot trouble before it grows to large to handle. It also is essential to exercise patience and be consistent so that you may indeed teach your old dog some brand new tricks. Internet marketing has a lot of Internet Scams associated with it. I have seen a number of real cleaver one. I think that the best one that I have found is Google Home Income. It lets you size up with your credit card for only $1.97. What they don’t tell you is that in the fine print this is a membership site. Three days after you sign up your credit card is billed for $79.00. Recurring billing internet marketing sites that don’t clearly indicate the billing and how to cancel the subscription rate really high on my rip off scale. This one is a 10 on a scale of 1 to ten.

I found a supposed news paper article on a lady in Kennewick, Washington that makes $4000 to $5000 a month with this program. The article has three links to the home sales page. Since I live about 15 minutes from Kennewick and know a number of families with the same last name I tried to locate the lady. Can’t find anything about her. My advise is delete this one if it ever appears on your computer. There is a lot of information about it on the web and most not very complementary. There are alternatives to this method to getting started in working at home using the internet. Continue reading this post and you will see some.

I have been involved in Internet Marketing for the last three years. There are a couple of things that really jerk my chain. These practices cost good folks a lot of money and are clearly deceptive in practice.

The first if membership web sites. Yes some of them are very good. They provide a lot of valuable information. I belong to a couple.

The Traffic Geyser program provides a valuable method for advertising my brick and mortar repair business as well as a method to post videos on lots of places on the web. They make no bones about charging you a monthly fee. The other side is that they provide a valuable service for this fee.
John Delavera’s Turbo Marketing membership is another that I belong to. When I first joined it provided a lot of valuable free content for the membership fee, however lately it has not provided the quality of information that it has in the past. My second peeve with this membership is that the “Angels” never answer an email. I am considering dropping this site. In all fairness there is a lot of free software and other stuff on this site that if used properly make it a valuable resource.

The one that really bother me are the membership sites that offer a freebie to get you to sign up and then it is really difficult to unsubscribe. I have had a couple of those that took me over a year to get off my credit cards. One was Prosper Learnings membership site associated with their web coaching program that is very expensive and next to useless. I spent $10,000 with them and gained next to nothing. Robert Allen wrote some great books but his Prosper Learning program is not worth the money.

My second pet peeve is the offer. Buy our stuff and by the end of the month you can quit your day job. Anybody that says you will get rich quick is full of some thing and it ain’t honesty. There is not a get rich quick scheme that works that is honest and can be done with integrity. You can follow directions to shorten the process. You still must do the work.

There is something about a membership site that entices you in with a free offer and then makes it difficult to get off their list that if fundamentally wrong. As a side note three companies settled out of court class action suits for this very thing for 10’s of millions of dollars. Internet marketer’s need to get some honesty and integrity. It isn’t all about money.

Mark Joyner has several membership sites tied to his World Class Simpleology program. I have purchases some of his stuff and never had a problem canceling a subscription after I got the free stuff. He has great information and gives a lot of it away.

The one that really get me are like this.

These are the one that give you a free introduction and then if you really want this to work you must buy our $497.00 coaching package. Now some of the programs are probably worth the money. But the ones that seem to have value don’t offer to make you rich for no effort. It just doesn’t work that way. If you truly know any rich folks you know that they work hard to accomplish their goals.

Just got one of those phone calls, “I am looking for those people that have decided to make a lot of money on the internet.” This call came in while I was writing this article. I can tell you that after listening to this sale person for about 5 minutes it was obvious that he was broke. Asked them to provide empirical data not just testimonials. Ask them what percent of the people that start their programs make the 6 figure income. This fellow stated that 100 percent did then he started adding reasons that caused them to fail. Through all of this I did not get one solid figure. My answer hang up the phone and run away.

In summary internet marketing is a great thing. Spend you money wisely. Do your research. Don’t fall for the offer that this will only be available for the next hour. These things have a way of showing up again and usually for a lot less money. If it works it will be around for a while. The cutting edge is not always the front edge. This concludes my tirade on my pet peeve for internet marketing.

I have a real treat for you today. Most of us are into social networking in some form or another–Facebook, Myspace or Twitter. The article below describes how to use Twitter and not alienate either twitter or your followers. The real secret is included in Coup de Twitter.

Today, I’d like to introduce you to our guest author, Harris Fellman. So, once again, here’s a quick recap of how you can stage your own Peaceful (or Hostile) Take Over using Twitter.

First get a good network of followers going.
Build relationships with your network.
Get your followers to click on your links & tell others about you by retweeting your messages

In previous posts, I’ve shared with you simple ways to do steps 1 through 3. In the last post I even added a dimension to step #3 which showed you how to put all that retweeting on HYPERDRIVE by providing things of value to your growing list of followers. But by now, you must be thinking that something is missing. Especially if you’re in business you may, at this point, be wondering if this is just a lot of wheel spinning and wasting your time talking to people.

You’re asking “But, Harris, HOW do I make money?”

Which of course brings me to today’s post. If you take the actions that I’ve been telling you about throughout this process you’ll certainly create a growing list of followers… most likely into the thousands and beyond but up till now we haven’t talked about how to tie it all together and start making some money with this newfound connectedness.

Here’s the thing. You CAN make money using Twitter and you WILL. But it’s got to be a carefully planned process because you can easily ruin your entire pot of soup you’ve been so lovingly stirring and adding ingredients to all this time. If you just start throwing tons of pepper into the pot now, you’ll just ruin all your efforts.

So, let’s unwrap this a bit. What is Twitter?

Twitter is really a free-for-all, information gathering, networking, and socializing all going on at the same time, real time, all the time. It’s kind of like being in the middle of a crowded street in New York at rush hour.

People are streaming in all directions with a phone in one ear, a blackberry in their hand AND trying to hail a cab with the other. It’s HARD to get and keep people’s attention, and if you smack them in the head with a bowl of soup from your cart when they’re not looking they’re going to disengage… just like that. Poof. Relationship damaged. Do it a couple more times and Kablooey. Relationship vanished.

Not only that, they’ll probably be pissed you spilled soup on them.

There’s a couple things to consider here, but the main idea is NOT to try and make money ON Twitter directly. It doesn’t really work. Nothing will get people to unfollow you faster. What you want to do is have a ratio of no more than 5-10% of your tweets even trying to promote anything (whether it’s your product or a product you’re promoting as an affiliate.

What we’ve been doing over the past couple of posts is gently stirring that pot of soup. Building relationships, getting people to click, getting people to retweet. Letting those aromas fill the kitchen and start making your followers hungry for more. You’ve got them retweeting your messages, clicking your links and now you’re going to want to entice them even more by dropping a few breadcrumbs that lead them to your steaming bowl of luscious soup.

The key is to start interspersing all this great value with things of your own. Links that lead your hungry followers to even MORE good value and FREE content that you provide, luring them off of Twitter and onto your own site. If you don’t have you own site yet, there are certainly plenty of affiliate products you can promote. But I still don’t recommend sending people straight to a sales page. You have to lull your followers away from the noisy street and into your tasty cafe. The content can be many things: teleseminars, webinars even a live Ustream show… the possibilities are truly endless as long as you think “VALUE FIRST“.

Once you get their attention directed at you and you alone THEN it’s time to show them your real wares and convince them to buy your soup, so to speak. You can even give them a taste of your soup to really get them hooked before asking them to buy the entire bowl. By that time they’re hungry and they’re not distracted by all the noise going on around them.

So, that’s the big Twitter secret. To make money on Twitter, you have to get people AWAY from Twitter!
